📋 Sources & Study Conditions
Ratings reflect sample size, methodology, peer review, and replication — not whether a finding is interesting or true. Ordered strongest to weakest.
General Population DistributionStrong
Myers & Briggs Foundation, MBTI Manual, 4th Ed. (2018), via CAPT/CPP
The standard psychometric reference for how common each of the 16 types is in the general population. Baseline for all comparisons in this dashboard.
C-Suite %Strong
Fortune 500 executive data
Direct representation figures for each type among Fortune 500 C-Suite executives, compared against the MBTI Manual's general population baseline above.
Founders / EntrepreneurModerate
MBTI Manual (CAPT/CPP)
MBTI Manual documents overrepresentation of certain types among the self-employed. The specific 1–10 scores per type are a synthesized composite built on top of that finding, not a single published statistic.
ReligionModerate
16Personalities, self-reported, 100,000+ respondents
Large sample, but drawn entirely from people who sought out an online typing test — not a random population sample.
Calmness Level (Anxiety)Moderate
Truity Psychometrics, stated 10,000-person sample
Real company, real stated sample size — but same self-selection issue as Religion above: online test-takers aren't representative of each type as a whole.
Life & Job SatisfactionModerate
Liying & Sheibani, Journal of Ecohumanism, 2024 (working college students, China) · MBTI & workload study, 654 subway train drivers, Czech Republic (PMC, 2023)
Real, peer-reviewed, MBTI-specific studies exist and found Extraversion, Sensing, Thinking, and Judging predicted higher job satisfaction and wellbeing. The catch: both studies are occupation- and country-specific (Chinese students, Czech train drivers) — real findings, but not a broad cross-population result. Treat this dashboard's per-type numbers as illustrative of a real pattern, not a precise universal ranking.
Stress ToleranceModerate
Nursing students & stress perception study, BMC Medical Education / Springer, 2025 (peer-reviewed, MBTI + validated stress checklist)
A real, recent, peer-reviewed study measured actual MBTI type against a validated stress scale and found genuine differences along Extraversion/Introversion and Thinking/Feeling. Same caveat as Life & Job Satisfaction above: the sample is nursing students specifically, not a general population — a real finding in a narrow group, not yet a universal one.
Astronaut Selection FitStrong moderate mapping
Musson et al., Aviation, Space & Environmental Medicine, 2004 (NASA, N=259) · ESA selection study, 2016 (N=902)
Real space agencies, peer-reviewed, decent sample sizes, replicated by two independent agencies. The one personality trait that predicted selection was low neuroticism (emotional stability) — nothing else in the Big Five was predictive.
⚠️ How this dashboard maps it: NASA and ESA did not use MBTI. This ranking reuses this dashboard's existing Calmness data (the closest available proxy for emotional stability) rather than a direct MBTI-based finding. Treat the underlying research as strong; treat "which MBTI type fits astronaut selection" as an inference, not a cited result.
Frontier Thinkingstrong research moderate mapping
Rogers, Diffusion of Innovations, 1962/2003 · Calefato, Lanubile et al., peer-reviewed studies of ~400 GitHub developers & Apache contributors (Big Five vs. open-source contribution) · Herrero & Rodríguez, Social Science Computer Review, 2011 (N=819, sensation-seeking & tech innovativeness)
Beyond the general early-adopter theory, more specific and more recent empirical research directly ties measured personality traits to open-source and tech-adoption behavior: multiple peer-reviewed software-engineering studies found Openness (and, in some, Agreeableness) predicts who actually contributes to open-source projects like Apache, while a 819-person study found sensation-seeking/novelty-seeking profiles predict real technology-innovativeness behavior. This is a more direct empirical anchor than diffusion theory alone.
⚠️ How this dashboard maps it: none of these studies used MBTI directly. But Openness is a well-established, widely-used cross-model equivalent to MBTI's Intuition (N), which is a more grounded parallel than mapping general diffusion theory alone. This dashboard maps that Openness/novelty-seeking research onto Intuition and Perceiving, and blends in this dashboard's own Bitcoin-adoption and entrepreneurship data. Treat the underlying research as solid; treat "which MBTI type is a Frontier Thinker" as a reasonable, better-anchored inference — still this dashboard's construction, not a direct citation.
Dog/Cat LeanModerate weak mapping
Guastello et al., Carroll University, 2014 (N=600, then peer-reviewed replication N=418) · Gosling, U. Texas, 2010 (N=4,565)
Real psychology professors, peer-reviewed replication exists — but the original sample was a single Midwestern university, 74% female, and used the 16PF model, not MBTI. Dog owners scored higher on warmth, liveliness, rule-consciousness, and social boldness; cat owners scored higher on independence and openness.
⚠️ How this dashboard maps it: this study never used MBTI. The Dog/Cat bar is a rough composite built from the Extraversion, Feeling, and Judging letters (the traits closest to "warmth, liveliness, rule-consciousness"). It's a stacked inference on top of an already-moderate study — treat this one as the least certain study in the dashboard.
PoliticsWeak
Sourcing previously reviewed and flagged
This data was already identified as methodologically weak and rebuilt once. Rating carried forward.
The sections below appear only in the per-person drawer, not in the Other Studies dropdown — listed here so every piece of research in this dashboard has a rating on record. Ordered strongest to weakest, same as above.
Health & LongevityStrong weak mapping
Friedman, Martin et al. — the "Longevity Project," a 70+ year longitudinal study (N≈1,178–1,312, Terman data) · replicated in the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging (N=2,359) and Georgia Centenarian Study · meta-analysis of 194 studies (PubMed) on Conscientiousness and mortality-linked behaviors
One of the best-replicated findings in personality psychology: Conscientiousness reliably predicts longevity and healthier behavior across multiple large longitudinal cohorts spanning decades, independently replicated many times.
⚠️ How this dashboard maps it: this research uses the Big Five, not MBTI. Conscientiousness maps most closely to MBTI's Judging (J) preference. This dashboard's per-type health narratives extend that real finding into MBTI-shaped text, which is this dashboard's own construction, not a direct citation.
Career & IncomeModerate
CPP's own MBTI Career Report (Hammer & Macdaid, 1992) · decades of function-pair (ST/SF/NT/NF) occupational research · peer-reviewed studies of MBTI type in specific professions (medicine, radiography, physics)
Real, long-standing, named research base showing MBTI type clusters by occupation — but the specific dollar-figure income tiers shown per type in this dashboard are not from one single published dataset.
LeadershipModerate
Judge, Bono, Ilies & Gerhardt, Journal of Applied Psychology, 2002 — meta-analysis of 78 leadership studies · MBTI-specific leadership study, N=529 (PMC, Colombian business students)
A landmark, highly-cited meta-analysis found personality explains 28% of the variance in leadership emergence and effectiveness. The MBTI-specific replication found a real but weaker relationship. Solid research base; this dashboard's per-type leadership narratives extend it into MBTI-shaped text.
Money & WealthModerate
Nyhus & Webley, 2001 · Brown & Taylor, 2014 (British Household Panel Survey) · Harvard Business School-published money-manager study
Well-replicated Big Five research: Conscientiousness predicts saving and lower debt; Neuroticism predicts compulsive buying and financial distress. Real, repeated findings across multiple large datasets — but based on the Big Five, not MBTI directly.
Assertive vs. Turbulent (A/T)Moderate
16Personalities' own proprietary Identity dimension, informally understood to be based on the Big Five's Neuroticism domain (a well-established, heavily-researched construct — e.g., Widiger et al., 2017)
This is a named, real source — just not an independent academic study. 16Personalities added A/T on top of classic MBTI themselves; it isn't part of official Myers-Briggs theory. The underlying Neuroticism construct it's said to be based on is genuinely well-researched, but the A/T packaging itself hasn't been independently validated as its own measure.
RelationshipsWeak
Kim & Lee, 2010 (N=62 couples, Korean clinic study) · multiple meta-analyses comparing MBTI to Big Five for relationship prediction
Real research exists here, and it's unflattering to MBTI specifically: studies find MBTI type-matching correlates weakly with relationship satisfaction (r<0.3), roughly half the predictive power of Big Five traits. One direct study (N=62 couples) found no significant difference in marital satisfaction based on type similarity at all. Named and cited, but the citation itself argues for caution.

ENTP-A vs ENTP-T

→ ENTP-A: The ENTP-A debates and disrupts from a place of genuine confidence. Criticism bounces off — they’ve heard it, considered it, and moved on. They don’t need validation from the room and are comfortable being the most contrarian voice at the table. Self-doubt is rare and brief.

ENTP-T: The ENTP-T has the same restless mind but a louder inner critic. They question whether their ideas are actually good or just interesting. Imposter syndrome surfaces despite real capability. The debate instinct is the same, but underneath it is a genuine need to be right — not just heard.

Why Cason B scores this way: Genuinely loves exploring contrarian and disruptive ideas — debating them is how an ENTP falls in love with a concept.

Strengths:

  • Constantly generates and stress-tests new ideas
  • Persuasive natural advocate once genuinely convinced
  • Comfortable being early, wrong sometimes, and unbothered by it

Blind spots:

  • Enthusiasm can outrun follow-through
  • Chases the next new idea before finishing engagement with the last one

How Cason B reacts to new ideas: Wants to debate it immediately, poke every hole possible — and if the idea survives that scrutiny, becomes a vocal, energetic advocate.

Disruptive ideas Cason B might naturally investigate:

  • Has explained ₿ Bitcoin's asymmetric bet at every dinner party for years
  • An early, enthusiastic power-user of new AI tools
  • Drawn to open-source movements and unconventional startups

💰 Money & Wealth

  • High earning potential but inconsistent follow-through on financial plans — the idea is more exciting than the execution
  • Prone to overconfidence in investments and business ventures — the asymmetric upside is always visible, the risk less so
  • Entrepreneurial instinct is strong but capital can be burned fast on too many simultaneous ideas
  • Dislikes budgeting and financial admin — tends to outsource or ignore it until a crisis forces attention
  • Best financial outcomes come when paired with a detail-oriented partner or advisor who handles execution

❤️ Relationships & Social

  • Brings enormous energy, humor, and intellectual stimulation to close relationships
  • Commitment can be challenging — novelty is a deep need and long-term relationships must keep evolving
  • Genuinely interested in the people they care about — but can disappear into projects and forget to check in
  • Needs a partner who is secure and stimulating — clingy or intellectually passive people drain them fast
  • Loyal when truly invested — the challenge is getting them invested enough to stay

🏥 Health & Longevity

  • Inconsistent health habits driven by interest cycles — obsessive optimization phases followed by complete neglect
  • Sleep is often sacrificed for late-night idea sessions — chronic sleep irregularity is common
  • High stress tolerance in the short term, but burnout hits hard when it arrives
  • Exercise needs to be novel or competitive to hold attention — routine gym work rarely sticks
  • Mental health risk: boredom and stagnation — more dangerous to an ENTP than acute stress

👑 Leadership & Influence

  • Exceptional at generating vision, rallying people around an idea, and disrupting stale thinking
  • Struggles with operational follow-through — starting is easy, finishing is not
  • Teams love their energy and creativity but may feel rudderless without a strong executor alongside them
  • Can debate a team into paralysis — their ability to see all sides sometimes prevents a decision
  • Best in early-stage or transformational environments; underperforms in process-heavy organizations
